Florida's Silence on Tigran's Detention
I'm disappointed that my home state of Florida, specifically Attorney General Ashley Moody, did not join the 18 U.S. Attorneys General who called on President Biden and Secretary of State Blinken to designate Tigran. This designation is crucial—it would unlock critical resources and apply diplomatic pressure to increase Tigran's chances of release before his unlawful detention turns into a tragedy.
Reading Brittney Griner's account of her ten months in a Russian prison made me think of Tigran, a former law enforcement officer now detained under even worse conditions alongside the criminals and terrorists he once fought. Unlike Griner, Tigran is facing this treatment without having done anything wrong to warrant a single day of detention.
With Tigran’s health declining daily, my patience with the Biden Administration's approach to ensuring his release is wearing thin. They must act swiftly to prevent Nigeria from further violating international law and potentially taking the life of an innocent American whose only fault was trying to fight financial crime and trusting an employer that has failed him.
